Vic: Jury retires in police murder case
MELBOURNE, Dec 23 AAP - The jury in the trial of two men charged with the murders oftwo Melbourne police officers more than four years ago today retired to consider its verdicts.
The Supreme Court trial of the two men, Bandali Michael Debs, 49, of Narre Warren,and Jason Joseph Roberts, 22, of Cranbourne, began on August 14, amid tight security.
Sergeant Gary Silk, 35, and Senior Constable Rod Miller, 34, were gunned down on August16, 1998, during a surveillance operation designed to capture two men who carried outa series of armed robberies in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.
They were shot after pulling over a suspect car just after midnight during a stakeoutof the Silky Emperor Chinese Restaurant in Moorabbin.
