WA: Alleged police violence in BHP dispute dreadful: Beazley

PERTH, Jan 19 AAP - The alleged use of police violence in the Pilbara BHP dispute,
where workers were simply fighting for their right to collectively bargain, was "absolutely
dreadful", Opposition Leader Kim Beazley said today.

It was reported police used batons against unionists to clear a path through Newman
and Port Hedland pickets as a strike against workplace agreements escalated.

Seven union officials were arrested as workers at BHP's Port Hedland operations joined
their Newman colleagues.
